It began after a session...
Like any great piece of tricking lore, there were a few core elements involved. A late night, a tricking session, and most importantly, the power of friendship.
Having already been energized a few weeks before after watching the Hooked 2017 live stream, we were kicking back in our college apartment, one night after a session, talking about the past year's gatherings and our favorite gatherings in general. We thought, ya know, what? What if we took a stab at running our own? What would we want to do differently? But also...wait...why hasn't there been a gathering in Philadelphia for 7 years?!
Eventually, we settled on the name Vertigo as a riff off of our shared inclination towards Vert Twisting. We liked that the definition, “A sensation of motion or spinning that is often described as dizziness,” coincidentally captured part of the essence of the many flips and spins that trickers perform while while airborne.
Next thing we knew, we were reaching out to past and current gathering hosts, picking their brains, forming a plan that turned into the first Vertigo Tricking Gathering! It started small with just our close friends visiting but over the years, we grew larger and larger, adding new, exciting elements to our brand.
Fast forward to 2023 and we've now hosted 5 major events and more mini events than we can count. It’s truly been a dream come true and we can’t wait for our next big move.
